On January 26, 2018, IVY School held its annual charity program named “Warung Kasih”. This event was held in front of Mitra 10, Wiyung. Warung Kasih itself is how we teach our students about giving, caring, and sharing for others. We annually open food bazaar and garage sale which sells low-priced food, beverages, and clothes for local communities. All the funds raised will be given to an orphanage.
Although the main reason of this program was doing charity, we organized this event in a fun way. Not only the students had to chip in for donations, but they also had to prepare food and beverages, and sell them by themselves. The students from Elementary to Middle School were divided into groups. Some of them were in charge to cook and prepare for the food and beverages, and some would stand by in the counter to promote and sell the goods in front of Mitra 10, Wiyung. As we sold the products in a low-price, our first priority customers were cleaning workers on the road, rickshaw drivers, bemo drivers, bricklayers, cleaning services, etc. The students were so enthusiastic being part of this charity event.
Warung Kasih also gave us a new perspective about doing a charity. It was not just about giving away things or money for them who are in needs, but it was more about the effort and creating fun ways to do a social event. These students could learn how to cook, promote and sell things, yet they also could show that they care for others.
